As part of this collaboration, we present to you the results of the GHG assessment for this edition.
Wool and the Gang's Carbon Footprint Measurement
ClimateSeed measured Wool and the Gang's carbon footprint for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022. This process enabled the company to better understand its environmental impact and identify key areas for improvement.
Focus on 2022: the assessment revealed that the total GHG emissions accounted for 3499 TCO2e.
Details of Emissions Categories
The primary source of emissions is the impact of sold products, accounting for 89.0%, which includes :
- the purchases of supplies, representing the biggest part of the 89%.
- the use phase (including washing and drying of the clothes).
- the end-of-life considerations.
Following this, buildings contribute 5.1% to the emissions, with the majority stemming from energy consumption.
Freight is the third significant emitter, comprising approximately 2.8% of the total emissions.
The measurement has heightened Wool and the Gang's awareness of product impact, reinforcing their ongoing commitment to sourcing eco-friendly wool.
Our Methodology
Carbon accounting categorizes GHG emissions resulting from human activities according to defined boundaries, taking into account time, organization, and function.
The GHG Protocol and the BEGES are widely used for this purpose, primarily for emissions related to organizations, but also for GHG assessments related to events.
ClimateSeed has built its framework using these methodologies as a reference. By adhering to their principles regarding scope, calculations, and categorizations, while considering event-specific data and reporting requirements.
Wool and the Gang's Carbon Contribution Strategy
Over the last 3 years, Wool and the Gang has contributed to different carbon avoidance projects.
The company's strategy focuses on maximizing impact through the projects selected to ensure strong environmental and social co-benefits. Following the GHG protocol, Wool and the Gang ensured that all of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions were fully accounted for through its climate contribution.

The project, the world's largest forest-based carbon initiative, seeks to promote sustainable practices for forest restoration, improving people's livelihoods. It assists individuals and communities in obtaining land titles and implements on-the-ground activities, such as supporting local farmers with technical guidance, agricultural inputs, and market access for sustainably produced goods. A key initiative of the project is a community program empowering women and girls with access to healthcare and education.

This project preserves the Peruvian Amazon's rainforests in a biodiversity hotspot, offering a haven for rare and endangered wildlife. It combines conservation and sustainable economic growth to safeguard these forests. Through transitioning local farmers to sustainable cacao farming, degraded land is restored, curbing deforestation and supporting forest-friendly livelihoods. Additionally, the project combats deforestation by investing in viable cacao agroforestry systems and utilizing climate finance for forest monitoring and protection.

The Rainforest Conservation project in Peru addresses deforestation drivers by aligning sustainable economic development with environmental protection across 1.3 million hectares of at-risk forest. It promotes sustainable livelihoods by providing technical assistance for transitioning to agroforestry systems for cocoa and coffee production. A community-focused program delivers essential services, while supporting 28 sustainable enterprises, including a women's textile group creating forest-inspired products. deforestation by investing in viable cacao agroforestry systems and utilizing climate finance for forest monitoring and protection.
