Our Guide Book on

Blue Carbon

Blue carbon refers to the carbon captured and stored by coastal and oceanic ecosystems, which play a critical role in mitigating climate change.

Coastal blue carbon focuses on rooted vegetation in coastal zones, spanning up to 100 km inland and extending from the upper intertidal zone to depths of 40 m. These transitional areas, where land meets sea, are characterized by aquatic rooted vegetation, such as seagrasses, marshes, and mangroves, with plants either fully or partially submerged.
